Lummi Native American Art Competition

“COMMUNITY TOTEM”

  1. Lummi NationCompetition celebrates the common geography, interests, values and history of Bellingham and Lummi Nation communities.
  2. Open to only Lummi Nation tribal community members. All art forms acceptable.
  3. Deadline for submissions to CedarWorks Gallery is Friday, February 24, 2012.
  4. Submissions will be judged on the following criteria:
    1. Originality/Creativity
    2. Relationship of work to the theme “COMMUNITY TOTEM” (community symbols)
    3. Ease of transfer to two-dimensional materials
    4. Clarity of artwork when reduced to 3 inch diameter for finisher medals
  5. Only submitting artists’ original artwork accepted. Two submissions maximum per artist.
  6. Cash Prizes:
    1. 1st Place - $500
    2. 2nd Place - $200
    3. 3rd Place - $100
  7. Right of Claim:
    1. 1st Place winning artist is granted right to use the designation “Official Artwork of the 2012 Bellingham Bay Marathon” in marketing and advertising materials. All usage is subject to the approval of BBM race committee.
    2. 2nd Place winning artist is granted right to use the designation “2nd Place Artwork of the 2012 Bellingham Bay Marathon Lummi Native American Art Competition.”
    3. 3rd Place winning artist is granted right to use the designation “3rd Place Artwork of the 2012 Bellingham Bay Marathon Lummi Native American Art Competition.”
  8. Rights of Use: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place winning artists agree to grant full exclusive rights of use within the sporting event industry of winning artwork to Bellingham Bay Athletic Association for use on Bellingham Bay Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K
  9. Temporary Custody of Artwork: All submitted artwork may be held in the custody of Bellingham Bay Athletic Association for purpose of judging, display and use from the date of submission until October 31, 2012.
  10. Artwork Ownership: All artwork remains the property of the respective artist.

Application & Permission form may be downloaded here and is available at Cedar Works Gallery, 217 W Holly St, Bellingham WA 98225. Art Competition Judging

Judging will be conducted in two stages: selection of finalists and selection of winners. Five finalists that best meet the art competition criteria stated above will be selected by a panel of four artists representing the following organizations:

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be selected from the finalists by the Art Competition subcommittee of the Bellingham Bay Marathon Race Committee.


Bellingham Bay Athletic Association thanks Cedar Works Gallery, Lummi Cultural Arts Association and Lummi Communications for their help in communicating information about this competition through the community of Lummi artists.
